LGBTQ+ Wedding Vendors (Rochester, NY)

I cannot express how much I wish in 2026 that ALL wedding vendors were accepting, and inclusive of the LGBTQ+ community. Sadly, that is still not the case. As a past queer bride I know firsthand the anxiety that can come with wedding planning. Constantly having to “come out” to potential wedding vendors as you try to put together your dream team can be exhausting. From my own experience and working in the wedding industry for the past five years, I’ve learned a thing or two about how to tell if a wedding vendor is queer friendly. A combination of red flags and signs of affirmation- I’m here to walk you through finding that dream Rochester NY, LGBTQ+ inclusive wedding vendor with ease.

Signs of Affirmation

Let’s start with some of the more obvious signs that a vendor is inclusive:

  • They have a rainbow, or pride flag somewhere in their bio or on their homepage.
  • They are using inclusive language on their website, in their social media captions and especially on their contact forms.
  • You see little to no use of the terms bride and groom.
  • They have an inclusivity statement on their website homepage.
  • Their imagery and social media depict a variety of couples (i.e. not just a man & woman).
  • Their contact form asks for pro-nouns.

Wedding Vendor Red Flags

And now for some signs that they may be missing the mark or are all together not an inclusive vendor:

  • They only display imagery of a bride & groom.
  • They use terms such as bride & groom on their contact form.
  • They use phrases like, “serving the traditional wedding couple.”

Unfortunately, it can be difficult to read between the lines when searching through dozens of vendors. Wedding vendors are careful not to come off as discriminatory within the industry. If you have a potential vendor you’d like to use but are unsure where they stand; I strongly suggest inquiring with the vendor and letting them know asap that you are a queer couple. Request to either meet in person or do a video chat (I would avoid a phone call in this scenario, simply because it will be harder to read their body language & subtle red flags). Then, be upfront during your meeting. Let them know the importance of having your vendors be accepting, supportive and celebratory on your wedding day. Ask if they have worked with queer couples before and if they have client reviews from those experiences. If the vendor is a photographer or videographer ask to see example galleries/films so you can see how they compose shots with a queer couple. Does the couple appear relaxed and comfortable? Then, double check their social media and portfolio. Are they showing off their queer couples in the same way they showcase others?

If a vendor hasn’t worked with a LGBTQ+ couple in the past, it doesn’t always mean they aren’t inclusive. They may not have had the opportunity to, however it’s up to you to decide if you’ll be their first.

Additional Tips for your Inclusive Vendor Search

The biggest tip I can give is to use your resources to your advantage. One inclusive vendor can lead you to others, so if you’ve hired a wedding planner or booked your venue, reach out for inclusive vendor recommendations. If you have LGBTQ+ friends who’ve gotten married ask them about their experiences and if they have vendor recommendations or people to steer clear from. I promise you there are more and more inclusive vendors who are loud, proud and ready to celebrate you than you may think! If you want a safe bet, seek our vendors who are making it abundantly clear where they stand on this matter and avoid those you make you read between the lines! There are also a few specific LGBTQ+ wedding directories online for you to browse through vendors all over the US and beyond:

Keep in mind some directories are subscription based meaning local vendors may not be listed, but that doesn’t mean they don’t exist!
